‘OUR HOLYHEAD BREAKWATER’
On a still, clear night, the lights from the pier
Reflect on the glimmering sea.
The yachts lay at anchor, there's nothing to fear
For the harbour is as calm as can be.
The harbour is at peace, so still, so serene
Just the odd little ripple breaks the calm.
The breakwater's outline can clearly be seen.
Protecting the harbour from harm.
On a rough, stormy night, the harbour churns.
The little yachts toss restlessly.
The wind howls with rage, as the tide quickly turns
Whipping up the boiling sea.
The breakwater takes an horrendous thrashing
As the waves pound continuously
With a terrible force, on its old walls crashing
But it withstands all courageously.
Whatever the weather may bring its way
As the seasons come and go
Our breakwater stands as firmly today
As when it was built, long ago.
But time takes its toll, and its walls need some care
Its walkways are crumbling with age
We must not take for granted it will always be there
To withstand the sea's awful rage.
We must therefore protect its damaged wall
Protect it from storms yet to be.
For it has protected our harbour through all
The rages of the mighty sea.
