The Holyhead Maritime Museum is situated close to
our Land Train stop at Newry Beach, Holyhead.
Local
history is not confined to the sea. This carving was
discovered in a dry stone wall in the back garden of a house
in Holyhead and is approximately 3000 years old.
One of
four figureheads on display. This lady was actually painted
white when first acquired but after removing several coats of
paint, this is how the original looked.
THE GIFT
SHOP Offers a wide range of good quality souvenirs and
books suitable for all ages. For those with an interest in
maritime history there is an opportunity to find the ideal
present.

THE
MARITIME MUSEUM
Holyhead's
Maritime Museum is situated on Newry Beach in what is believed
to be the oldest lifeboat house in Wales (circa 1858). The Museum
aims to show the history and development of the port of
Holyhead from its origins as a tiny fishing village to the
present day.
The museum incorporates a public bar and bistro with a balcony
overlooking the beach.
Local
history is depicted through displays of medals photographs and
exhibitions which are renewed periodically to cover such
anniversaries as maritime disasters, tragedies, and
sacrifices.
Here the
story of Holyhead is traced from its earliest days to the most
recent additions and the Irish Sea traffic.
